SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

On the due date you will need to:

 

  • Hand in the task, typed and printed.
  • Complete the student pre submission reflection.

 

IMPORTANT: Late submissions will receive zero. If you know you are going to be away on the due date it is your responsibility to complete the assessment task before the due date. If you are sick on the day you must notify the school by phone and have your doctor complete a NESA Medical Certificate. You must present your medical certificate to the Head of HSIE the first day of your return to school after your absence. Failure to submit your task on the due date will result in an award of ‘0’ and an N-Award Warning Letter sent home.

TASK DESCRIPTION

 

In this assessment task, you need to research a developing country.

 

Many people in developing countries are not able to access education, health services and employment. In this assessment task, you are to research a developing country and report on the wellbeing of people within that nation.

 

For the purpose of this task, choose ONE developing country from the list below.

You will need to create a profile on one of the following countries:

·         Niger

·         Mozambique

·       Democratic Republic of Congo

·         Burundi

·         South Sudan

 

 

TASK OUTLINE

 

 A profile of human wellbeing in a developing country

You must type your document and answer all of the following questions.

There are THREE parts to this task.

PART A: Table of information        

Background information on your nation (1 table) (10 marks)

Download word doc template 

c  Complete a table using current information and statistics on the country you have selected. Information should ideally be from 2018-2024, however, can be from 2014 onwards.

 

c  Include 8-10 key indicators/statistics for your nation such as:

o   Population

o   GNI

o   Adult literacy rate

o   Infant Mortality Rate

o   Birth rate

o   Death rate

o   Life expectancy - male and female

o   Health indicators e.g. hospital beds / population   

 

c  Include sources for all your statistics. A good place to start is: The World Bank – World Development Indicators https://databank.worldbank.org/source/world-development-indicators

In you answer you can think about these ideas:

Ø  Explain how the level of population, health services and access to fresh water and sanitation affects the life expectancy of people

Ø  Explain how access to education and the level of literacy affects the type of work that people can do and the effect on their wellbeing.

Some indicators that are about literacy and work:

Indicators that discuss overall wellbeing:

·         HDI (covers literacy rate, life expectancy and what an income will actually buy in a country)

Answer this question:

To do this, you could:

1.       Define the wellbeing factor (SPEECS) in this paragraph.

-          E.g. Physical health OR education/employment

2.       Re-write the indicators from Part A that link to the wellbeing factor identified in the topic sentence.

-          Connectors to use: Furthermore; in addition; moreover

3.       Explain the impact of these indicators on the wellbeing of the people. E.g. how do these indicators impact on the standard of living?
